Johnny Behan was the elected sheriff of Cochise county. He was very ineffective in preventing violence on October 26th 1881. Behan was a friend to the "Clanton" gang and did not get along with the Earps. He got Kate Elder drunk and made her testify against Doc Holliday's involvement in the Benson Stage robbery. He would scam Wyatt Earp into resigning from the county sheriff election, promising him that they would split the duties and salary. Wyatt would get even though, he would steal Behan's fiance Josie Marcus. Behan would form a posse to try and hunt down Wyatt Earp when he went on his revenge tour. Behan's posse included Ike Clanton and Johnny Ringo.
