John Clum was the Editor of the Tombstone Epitaph and vocal Earp supporter. Clum was also the town's Mayor and Postmaster. Clum played a major role as a political Ali to Wyatt & co. during the spicer hearing. He used his paper to degrade the Clantons and Mclaurys and to glorify the Earps. Threats were made against his life by anti-Earps. On December 14th, 1881 his stage was ambushed and shots were fired, Clum escaped unharmed.
